Professor Ned Wright received a share of this year's Gruber
Cosmology Prize. The prize goes to the COBE team and John Mather, chief scientist
of the mission, for their groundbreaking observations of the microwave
background, in particular of its inhomogeneities. The official
announcement was made at the opening ceremony of the International
Astronomical Union's General Assembly in Prague Wednesday, August
16 2006. The prize consists of a gold medal and $250,000 in cash.

his key contribution to our understanding of the structure and
