The Leonard Student & Faculty Lounge in Knudsen Hall has been open for 35 years, and as you can see is in dire need of restoration. The Lounge is heavily used by graduate students, faculty (for Faculty Meetings), the Undergraduate Physics Society, and for colloquium receptions and other special events. The Department would like to show its support of our students and colleagues by improving the appearance of the Lounge. Given the financial situation of the University, restorations cannot be funded by instructional resources. Therefore, contributions must come from outside sources. We are appealing to you as friends, alumni and faculty of the UCLA Department of Physics & Astronomy for financial help. The outdoor patio and indoor flooring need to be replaced. We also need new furniture.

The cost of replacing all of the indoor carpet with new flooring is approximately $10,000. We estimate that resurfacing the patio and buying new furniture will triple this amount. Please consider a donation to the restoration fund so that younger generations may enjoy the Lounge as we did during our student years. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to:
