Higgs Factory Workshop
UCLA Faculty Center
Dear Colleague:
We look forward to your
participation at an upcoming workshop called "From the Neutrino Factory to
the Higgs Factory: Muons All the Way" on February 28 and March 1 at
the UCLA Faculty Center. The study will prepare for the presentation at
the Snowmass 2001 of a plan for the construction of a future neutrino factory
and a future Higgs factory.
Interest in a future Higgs
factory was raised in the particle physics community by the presentation of
evidence from the LEP experiments for a Higgs boson at a mass of 115 GeV.
The first muon collider would be the best accelerator at which to study such a
Higgs boson. Due the recent interest in a neutrino factory,
feasibility studies I and II for muon storage rings as neutrino factories have
already been undertaken by the Neutrino Factory and Muon Collider
Collaboration. Also recently, studies have been done on emittance
exchange needed for longitudinal cooling at a high luminosity muon
collider. At this time, a new study for a Higgs factory muon collider is
to be carried out using results of these R&D efforts.
The workshop agenda is listed
below:
1. Overview and
Executive Summary
2. Update on Higgs
Physics
3. Recap of Neutrino
Factory Parameters from Feasibility Studies I and II
4. Reconfiguration of
Proton Driver and Target for Single Bunch Operation
5. Mu+/- Collection
System and Precooling
6. Final Cooling
Schemes/Emittance Exchange
7. Using the Neutrino Factory
Acceleration System for the Higgs Factory
8. Higgs Factory
Storage Ring
9. Summary of
Parameters
10. Cost Drivers for
the Conversion of the Neutrino Factory to the Higgs Factory
