FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

UCLA is pleased to host the 10th Advanced Accelerator Concepts Workshop from Saturday evening June 22 until Friday noon June 28, 2002. The Workshop will be held at Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort, Oxnard, CA. The Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort is located midway between Malibu and Santa Barbara, approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles.

This Workshop continues the series started in 1982 with the First Workshop on Laser Accelerator of Particles held at Los Alamos. Since then the scope of the subsequent workshops has been broadened to include all advanced acceleration concepts not just those based on lasers as power sources. Since the first Los Alamos Workshop, a small but vigorous community has emerged in the USA and many other nations engaged in finding alternate ways of generating, accelerating, manipulating and focusing particles. Most of the research is basic in nature. Most acceleration schemes initially proposed at Los Alamos have been shown to accelerate electrons and many have moved on to second generation experiments aimed at answering the issues of longer acceleration lengths, emittance preservation, small energy spread, staging and feedback stabilization of beams. It is the intent of the Mandalay Beach Workshop to review the current progress in this field.
