Welcome to the
Department of Physics and Astronomy website.
Our Department has very broad research activities that range from the cosmology
of the universe and the study of Black Holes, the Sun, and extra-solar planets
to the study of the elementary constituents of matter at the subatomic and
nuclear levels, and encompassing the way atoms and molecules aggregate in
condensed matter and biological systems and the behavior of plasma and particle
beam environments.
Our faculty includes members of the National Academy, the American Academy
of Arts and Sciences, and have received prestigious prizes like the National
Medal of Science, the Dirac Prize of the International Center of Theoretical
Physics, the Newton Lacy Pierce Prize in Astronomy, the UCLA Women of Science
Award, the National Academy of Sciences Arctowski Medal, the UAP Grand Prix
Scientifique, the Thomas Alva Edison Science Award, the Russel Prize and
the Wilson Prize. We take great pride in teaching for our undergradute and
graduate students. UCLA provides a rich environment for learning, living
conditions, and sport activities.
We invite you to explore in more detail what our department can offer you
by looking at the 2004-2005
Annual Report, and the faculty
web pages. |
